Overdose Awareness Day

August 31 is Overdose Awareness Day and a group gathered to wear 91 purple t-shirts and 10 black bands in recognition of how Opiate overdoses have impacted our community. Each t-shirt represents a reported overdose, and each black band represents a fatal overdose that has occurred this year.

We would like to remind everyone the Salem Police are committed to providing any assistance we can to those affected by Opiate addiction. If you have information about drug sales or activity, need information about finding help, or have other concerns please contact us at 978-744-1212.

If someone you know is experiencing an overdose, dial 9-1-1 immediately. Seconds do count during an overdose, and you are protected by law if you call for help.

Thank you to all who came out today, and a special thanks to Lt. Dennis King for his role in organizing the event.
